have you ever wondered How does a big multinational company got established? How does the big machinery start working? The software platforms and multinational vehicles that are moving from here to there got into existence?

All of these are not easy there could be millions of damages of money and even lives of the people if the engineers haven’t followed some of the basic safety rules!!! Safety rules are easy to understand but very hard to implement. Only a few of the professional and experienced engineering thinks about the implementation of the safety rules during a project. Even in every country of the world not implementing the safety rule is considered a crime if there occurs any accident.

Why safety rules important?

ü Safety rule saves lives not only your but of others as well

ü Wastage of money is avoided

ü Professionalism is achieved

ü You can increase the success rate of your project

ü The time is not wasted if any accident occurred

Let suppose a civil engineer is working on a tall building and he is in the last phase of his ongoing project but in the last, he didn’t focus on the guaranteed safety rules that must follow and an unwanted accident occurred in this accident the laborers, staff members common men and got damaged, by not following just the safety rules the resources got into wastage the time money resources and hard work of each staff were spoiled but it would not stop here the police case could be there.

Some of the general safety rules that each engineer must follow;

1. Make sure you know the emergency exit path

2. You know the alarm bell in your institute

3. Keep yourself away from the cut wires

4. Keep yourself away from heavy machinery unless you are needed to work on them

5. Everything must be utilized by the permission of the supervisor

6. The glass equipment must be sure are not broken

7. The laptop computers you are using aren’t generating current

8. If you are working on file keep your attention only on your work

9. Take breaks if you are not comfortable with your wok

10. Personal protected equipment must be used if you are working in an electrical supply management section.

11. No, any tools must be misplaced.

12. If you are working in a petroleum section make sure you are well known for the capability of each machine.

13. Don’t touch unnecessarily to the boards or switches.

14. You must have attended any workshop or seminar of the company about safety rules before getting into professional work.

15. If you observe any disturbance in the system on which you are working report it to the manager reported e.g. breakage on tools and machinery, faulty wiring, worn or defective equipment, and unsatisfactory storage arrangements, accidents, or potential accidents that must be reported to the of the workshop.

16. Loose clothing, neckties, gloves, rings, and other jewelry, long hair (unless tied back and/or covered up), fabric first-aid dressings and bandages, and any other material likely to be entangled by the machinery should be avoided. Close-fitting overalls with no external pockets should be worn.

17. Many accidents can be avoided by the wearing of boots or shoes having built-in steel toecaps and reinforced, non-skid soles, especially in areas where oil is present or heavy equipment is being moved.

18. You should not work alone unless it is needed.

What is the relationship between safety rules and ethics;

There is a direct link and relation between the safety rules and engineering ethics because we can say that let considered a scenario that you are familiar and habitual to apply good engineering ethics but your previous record of the project is not good because you have not followed the safety rules and the record is not satisfying no one would love to give you a project

The same goes if you are applying good safety rules but the way of dealing with the clients means professional engineering ethics are not satisfying the client will not be happy with your work and agreement of money as well.

Professional ethics and engineering are the fundamental subjects that are being taught at every engineering institute because the engineering council of that particular company understands that after 4 to 5 years of studies these students will move into professional life where it is mandatory to have these concepts and implementation in mind so that they could be a success full engineers.
